However, such systems may not work outdoor or may have a very limited head box for them to work. This paper proposes a non-infrared based approach to track one’s eye gaze with an RGBD camera (in our case, Kinect). The proposed method adopts a personalized 3D face model constructed off-line. To detect the eye gaze, our system tracks the iris center and a set of 2D facial landmarks whose 3D locations are provided by the RGBD camera. A simple onetime calibration procedure is used to obtain the parameters of the personalized eye gaze model. We compare the performance of the proposed method against the 2D approach using only RGB input on the same images, and find that the use of depth information directly from Kinect achieves more accurate tracking. As expected, the results from the proposed method are not as accurate as the ones from infrared-based approaches. However, this method has the potential for practical use with upcoming better and cheaper depth cameras.

Low-cost Gaze and Pulse Analysis using RealSense

Intel’s newly-announced low-cost and high precision RealSense 3D (RGBD) camera is becoming ubiquitous in laptops and mobile devices starting this year, opening the door for new applications in the mobile health arena. In this paper, we demonstrate how the Intel RealSense 3D camera can be used for low-cost gaze tracking and passive pulse rate estimation. We develop a novel 3D gaze and fixation t...

Suivi du regard non intrusif en tête libre à partir d'images vidéo

The problem of eye gaze tracking has been researched and developed for a long time. The most difficult problem in the non-intrusive system of eye gaze tracking is the problem of head movements. Some of existing methods have to use two cameras and an active infrared (IR) illumination to solve this problem. Otherwise, with a single camera, the user has to hold the head uncomfortably still when pe...

Automating Camera Control in Games Using Gaze

This paper introduces a work in progress method for automating camera control in games using gaze tracking. Building on prior work by Burelli et al, we provide characterization of features for the gaze tracker and test a gaze-assisted camera control module in a first-person shooter game. We report results from a pilot study on the viability of gaze-assisted camera control. We also discuss chall...

Empirical Study on Designing of Gaze Tracking Camera Based on the Information of User’s Head Movement

Gaze tracking is the technology that identifies a region in space that a user is looking at. Most previous non-wearable gaze tracking systems use a near-infrared (NIR) light camera with an NIR illuminator. Based on the kind of camera lens used, the viewing angle and depth-of-field (DOF) of a gaze tracking camera can be different, which affects the performance of the gaze tracking system. Nevert...

Evaluation of Attention Bias in Morphine and Methamphetamine Abusers towards Emotional Scenes during Early Abstinence: An Eye-Tracking Study

Introduction: We hypothesized that inappropriate attention during the period of abstinence in individuals with substance use disorder can result in an inadequate perception of emotion and unsuitable reaction to emotional scenes. The main aim of this research was to evaluate the attentional bias towards emotional images in former substance abusers and compare it to healthy adults. Methods:...
